Shocking News!!

Today I along with many other volunteries who have voluntered at SKY along with volunters from another project called OT have found out that, sadly, there was a fire at SKY last night, which has destroyed the girls dorms and caused alot of damage to the hall. We now hate to think where the children are sleepoing and what the centre will do without the funds they need. After hearing this we really do want to get involved and do what platform2 has been put in place for, which is to make a diffence, and we want to make a bg difference for SKY by raising enough funds for them to rebuild SKY so that the children once again have somewhere to sleep. We feel this is a challenge, but will be a great achivment if we can raise enough to help sky. Already we have spoke about ideas with both SKY and OT volunters, trying to get everyone involved and help in a anyway they can. We are starting with the £1 appeal where we are going to try and get people to donate a £1 to start us of. We then want to take part in fundraising events wheather these are group ones or in our home towns. Either way our goul is to raise money to rebuild sky to give the children somewere to once again sleep. We hope we can get as many people as possible to help in fundraising these fund for SKY, and will greatly appriciate anyone who can help.

Home Sweet Home

Okay so ive been back home a couple of weeks now, and havn't really had much chance to post, ive noticed now how different the SA and UK are and how lucky we are to be honest, although I did enjoy SA alot and would love to have an opportuntiy to return there again at some point. I noticed the last couple of days thathe children really do appreiciate what you give them, such as clothes, they take them with no porblem and love them, we even gave them a game of twister that another voluter had left behind when they left  the day before us. straight away the children went to have a ago, and alothough they wernt to familier witht the game they stil wanted to have a go. Everyone was so friendly, and live was so different over there, and i do feel ive changed a bit since i have come bc ti the UK, but this is for the better. I no that I defonatly want to take part in other oportuntities like this if i find any. xxx

9 days to go XD

Well we have just over one week left, the past couple of weeks we have scraped n repainted the creche wash room, n also painted the kitchen n nursey. I can defo say from my experience things are dne vry different such as education in the creche n nursery. Ive defo enjoyed it thow so far, lets see how the nxt week goes XD...yesterday 6 of went to the cultural village which was defo a gd day, fun n different. Anyways il try postin again soon xx

34 Days to go XD

wooo this week has been gd tbh, been let free this week hehe, its sometimes like being stuck in a chicken coop as we cant really go off site unless we want the tuck shop, but this week ive been on admin n ive been let out everyday so ive actually been able to see some of the area XD....ive defo made the most of it XD.

so its only 34 days till ill be flying home, it will defo be nice to see evryone when i return at xmas misss n luv u all XD xxxx

fun fun funnn !!!

We have now been in sa for five weeks, half way through. We went to the lion park at the weekend, was fabbb, we got to hold the lions, how sweet n there was an amazing pool which we spent most of sunday in XD....we were thren bc to work monday but t bh this weeik has been gd weve been let free out of sky, yday we went to a near by school to have a meetin with staff about a fundraiser, n today three of us were taken to the mall to use the internet so its sorta been like to days off. Still. Missing everyone at home, miss u all, will look forward to seing everyone when i get back at xmas. See you all soon xxx

Im still here XD....Sawubona

heyy so im still here in sa, stil surviving....im starting to catch a bit of sun woop, finally lol
Not been to bad this week part from being ill wed n thurs.
Worked in the nursery(babies) mon n fri and i must say it is defonatly different to when im working in wolves, such as the children dnt get the attention as much as settings in the uk, but this could be due to staffing, we counted 38 children and only three staff, in the uk there would have to be 13 staff for this many children, also it was vry overcrowded, and the children dont get taking out for outdoor play, so we took the opportuntity to take them across to the creche playground in the mornings providing it is dry, which the children seemed to love.

We will be at the lion park nxt weekend so i wont be able to post anything as we will have no internet access. Still missing everyone bc at home, am defonatly looking forward to seeing everyone at xmas when we go home XD

heyyyy!!!

hiiiiiiiiiii from SA......so ive been in the creche again today and ive seen alot more of which we can help with before we leave at xmas. we've been tiling the wall this week between us n are hoping to get it finshed soon, hopefully it will look gr8 when all done. I look forward to bit of a change nxt week when il get to be placved ina nother area of sky, although i have enjoyed it in the creche aswell XD.

I had a strange dream this morning that we had completed the ten weeks but i was vry confused as i was only at the point i am now in reality, but the dream had convinced me enough that once i woke up i actually got confused of were i was at first til i fully woke up XP.

i hope everyones doing okay  bc in england, see everyone soon XD xxx

first week of work completed XD

so we all started work monday and ive been in the creche, which hasnt been to bad i guess, its got better through out the week when we started to find out more of what we could be doing in our time there. we now have some ideas for fundraising and what we what to do with the money, this includs doing up the creche, such as plastering and repainting, and also finshing the shower block off which should be quite interesting. :D

I hope everyone back in england is doing okay, miss you all, strange to think its only been a week and half, feels like so much longer tbh, will be good to see everyone at xmas...woop :D

XD South africa - first update

Hey so ive been here for 5 days so far and its has been amazing n found out so much interesting info. Everyone seems really nice & friendly, but i still miss everyone bc at home, so i defo look forward to seing u all at xmas XD.

We stayed in a hostle for the first coup[le of nites, it was actually quite nie there, n we have also stayed the last couple of nites at the house were we will be living over the rest of our trip. It is actually alot nicer then we all exspected, nd wquite homely tbh, which is gr8.

TEN DAYS!!!

:O so its only ten days untill im flying off to South Africa....which is kinda scary tbh its come so quick

I must finsh my packing soon and also make sure I get my presenation done, which i've finally decided im going to do Education in South Africa, I must now put together a 5 min presention about the chosen topic.

Once thats all done im ready to go a part from making sure I say bye to everyone as i'm gona miss so many amazing people whilst i'm away, so I must make sure I get round to seeing you all in between working XD

Right i'm of to make a start with getting geverything into may case so that I can check I have everything, I shell up date again soon about how im getting on n to say my byess from the UK before arriving in South Africa as I wont always have easy assess to the internet over there.

I'm getting veryyy excited about going, but will miss lots of amazing people whilst I'm away

Just got one jab left, reserach and my packing left to do before I'm all set and ready to go.
